Veer

Salman Khan and Shah Rukh Khan were best of friends. It was also evident from the kind of movies both did. While Shah Rukh kept on repeating his K-K-K-Kiran romances, Salman only did crude romantic comedies.

Then they had a fight.

Now, Salman and Aamir are best of friends. So for every Ghajini, there is a Wanted. Then Salman remembered, ‘Arre, Aamir ne to Lagaan bhi kiya tha. Period film tha woh.’

So he made Veer.

The movie is about Veer (Salman Khan), the bravest soldier among the Pindaris, seeking vengeance for the deaths of his fellow tribesmen in the hands of British Empire and King of Madhavgarh (Jackie Shroff). In the middle of all this, Veer falls for Yashodhara (Zarine Khan), the princess of Madhavgarh.

The story then becomes the conflict between Veer, bound by his love for Yashodhara and his mission to destroy his enemies and Yashodhara, bound by her love towards Veer and by her duty towards her father, the King of Madhavgarh.

Now Veer is indeed Veer. Not because he single handedly massacred the English soldiers and saved his tribe Pindari, but for a completely different reason which the film doesn’t highlight.

Is there any other film in the history of cinema where the hero bangs the heroine for just one night and in return their son is his look-alike? NO.

There lies the POWER OF VEER

Let’s focus on some of the other characters. They have their special powers too.

Puru Raj Kumar, who plays the brother of Yashodhara, just by looking at his sister’s eyes gets to know the identity of Veer. We have a PSYCHIC here!

Heroes anyone?

Sohail Khan, playing second fiddle to his brother once again, in one scene scares the shit out of Miss UK Lisa Lazarus, by posing as a tiger. How on earth did Sohail manage to get a stuffed tiger [that we get in the Malls] in late 1800? If that is not Veer-ta what is?

Finally, lets talk about Mithun Chakraborty. The film spans from 1852 to 1920. Mithun plays Prithvi Singh. When the film starts, lets assume he is in his 20s (I know it’s tough, but let’s assume). So he was born sometime around 1820s. When the film ends, it is 1920. So he is almost 100 years old. Still he can kick his grandson’s ass.

He is Super-Veer!

Anna Singh is the costume designer of the film. I think she got carried away seeing the bravery of every men in Veer and tried to do something unique herself. No wonder we see most Pindaris wearing jeans and fighting. What she forgot is that Levi Strauss started selling jeans around late 1800s whereas Pindaris wore jeans in 1852. Wow!

Anil Sharma made Veer as a sequel to Gadar. In Gadar, Sunny Deol single handedly bashed the entire Pakistan army. In Veer, Salman Khan does the same to the British Army.

I think he should make a third film where we, the public, multi handedly bash him.

There are basically two types of films, good film and bad film. Once in a while some special films fall under so bad that it is good category.

But no, Veer is not like that. It has to be unique. It is. Veer is a DISASTER.
