Didn’t feel like watching any new movies, so watched two of my all time favorites.

Audition

Okay! This is the best horror film of the last decade. Enough said!

Chaser

The best Korean film I saw in 2008. Infact I haven’t watched a better Korean film since. One of the best slasher/serial killer/thriller of the last decade!

Frozen

I visit this film very often.

Frozen talks about the attachment towards one’s home in the harshest of conditions. Also the conflict between simplicity and modernity.

If not for anything else, watch the film for its cinematography. Jaw-droppingly spectacular!

In Between Days

Being a sucker of Korean movies, I try and watch as many as possible.

It is about the story of a Korean immigrant teenager, who has fallen in love with her best and only friend. She tries to express her feelings for him but is scared of losing their friendship. Meanwhile, her friend falls for an Americanized Korean girl.

Most Korean films do not have strong storyline. What makes them special are their treatment. Add to that perfectly nuanced performances.

In Between Days is a personal, intimate film about loneliness and displacement. Highly Recommended!

Also lookout for the director, So Yong Kim’s other film called Treeless Mountain. Superb!

An Education

It’s official. I am in with Carey Mulligan.

An Education is a coming of age story of a young girl on doorstep of adulthood and also an honest look at sexual politics and a woman’s place in the world during the early1960s.

Outstanding performances from the cast comprising of Peter Sarsgaard, Alfred Molina, Cara Seymour, Dominic Cooper, Rosamund Pike, Olivia Williams, Emma Thompson and Sally Hawkins.

It is also the breakout performance of Carey Mulligan whom I have fallen so in love with.

Must watch!

The Case of Itaewon Homicide

The movie is based on an unsolved murder case at a hamburger chain in Seoul’s Itaewon district, where an innocent college student was stabbed to death by a stranger. Two Korean-American teenagers, prime suspects of the murder case, blamed each other for the horrific crime. The suspects threw contradictory evidence at investigators, creating confusion about what actually happened.

Since the movie is based on an unsolved murder case, I expected the movie to be another Memories of Murder. The movie somehow didn’t appeal to me. Found it boring. However it did manage to show how the Korean justice system managed to botch a simple homicide where the suspects were freed when one of them was the real killer.
